Follow-up Final Alliance Survey for 2013 Legislative Session – Responses Due August 20th

Hello all,

Thank you for your feedback via our first survey last month, designed to give us a better idea of how to prioritize our legislative efforts on behalf of survivors in 2013. You helped us narrow our focus. Now we need some additional information to help us prioritize specifics within your initial suggestions. Please take a few minutes to complete this follow-up survey. Here is the link to the survey
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/83KWTKD

Please respond by the end of the day on August 20th, so that we can compile answers and begin to formulate plans by the end of the month. Feel free to forward this to any allied advocates and survivors – all input from informed people working with survivors is appreciated.

After we have compiled answers, we will schedule an in-person meeting for advocates across the state to be held in the fall, where we will finalize our agenda and begin to put our plans into action!

Thank you for your work and your help.
-The Alliance Steering Committee

VAWA and VOCA Stimulus Package

July 18, 2012

Dear Oregon DV & SA programs:

In order for a bill to pass in September, the House and the Senate have got to work with each other to get a final, strong, bi-partisan bill that safely and effectively protects all victims.

ACTION:  From now until July 26, we are asking you to directly or in-directly (through your program, law-enforcement personnel or other community leaders) contact each Oregon Representative and Senator.

The message: “There are not many legislative days left in the 112th Congress, and we here at home are counting on you to personally take the message to [House Republicans: Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader Cantor; House Democrats: Minority Leader Pelosi; Senate Democrats: Majority Leader Reid; Senate Republicans: Minority Leader McConnell) that pre-conference discussions on a strong, bipartisan VAWA reauthorization bill need to be taking place now and throughout the August recess so when Members return to Washington on September 10th, the House and the Senate have worked out final language among themselves and with DC based advocates and are ready to pass a bill in both chambers.”

Then please follow up with the messenger in a few days to check-in on the response they received.

And submit survivor stories that make the case for passing VAWA 2012 to NNEDV at advocacy@nnedv.org
